You just haven't understood my point. Maybe it's because english isn't my main language.
"I took this to mean you were belittling the Forge, & saying that it was constructed using only 1 O-ring & had problems being used in cold weather. I'm sorry if I misunderstood, since, obviously, none of these statements are true."
Just because the manufacturer claims there isn't a problem with cold weather doesn't make my statement false. I would have been very surprised if they'd admitted it. As for the single O-ring, that's what I had been informed. It apparently wasn't correct, so my bad.
"Your post of 09.Nov: "...you can get the Hyperboost valve with a stronger spring (I have both the blue and green spring, and use the stronger blue one)...to me it seems that it would be better to have a valve that opens with less vacuum (but still be able to hold boost), so it will respond faster when you release the throttle."
"Just as you've proposed it in this thread, this combination is a contradiction.""
Nope that's not contradictory. You just haven't understood it: The reason I use the stronger spring is to hold the boost during WOT. It's *not* to delay opening. Again as I've said before that's not important. If I could use the weaker spring without loosing boost I would.
"The spring closes the valve, while vacuum works against the spring to open it. A stronger spring needs more vacuum to open, not less."
Yes exactly. Therefore the weakest spring that will still hold full boost, is the most suitable, because it will allow the valve to open faster than a stronger spring.
"Actually, I agree with most of this statement. Except for the first two sentences, which, again, contradict the fourth sentence."
Again there is no contradiction. They say the same thing: A spring that's stronger than what's necessary to hold boost, is not a benefit because it will be slower to open when the throttle closes.
You're still caught up in this notion that a strong spring is good because it delays opening and release of pressure. It's NOT.
The author of the test had the same misconception, even though he quoted the correct reason for lag:
"Whenever the throttle body is closed, like during shifts or deceleration, the boost needs an escape route. If the boost cannot escape during these times, it can back up and cause shocks to the turbo. These shocks will stall the turbo, slowing boost production upon re-acceleration (turbo lag)" (From awe-tuning.com)
"When Aero9k asked for input, I offered what I'd learned without telling him which one I felt was best. I gave pros, cons & commonalities for both valves. I DID say that the savings on the Forge didn't warrant buying it if he liked the features of the Hyper better. I did NOT mention that Stratmosphere would NOT answer my questions (twice!)."
I have no issue whatsoever about that post, in fact the only thing I commented on was the test, because I didn't want people to get the wrong idea about how the diverter valves work, and what's important when choosing one. As I stated before it was in no way an attack on or critique of you. I think it's a great initiative you've come up with.
"Any of these valves we're discussing will do what they're designed to do, with a slightly different "twist" for each brand. All I'm saying is that if you have some data which challenges other data presented, then PLEASE post it. It can only help everyone participating in our discussion."
I agree 100%, but this discussion is not about which valve is best, it's about how they work. I don't doubt his data, I'm sure it's correct. But what he concluded from the data is plain wrong.
Now let's give it rest, what do you say?
