Points taken, but I didn't say you couldn't at all chip tune LH or Trionic, I'm saying that you can't tune as finely or as precisely with chips as you can with stand alone. The best way to chip tune is with the car on a dyno, with wideband, with the chip burner next to you so you can make changes right away. Relatively time consuming compared to stand alone programmer or laptop. Buying a chip off the shelf likely will not take into account the current mods on the car or allow flexibility for future mods, without another chip. For example, will the chip take into account the lower CR achieved with custom pistons or the B234 head swap? Or will it compensate in the slight variation for fuel requirements with a hotter cam, which needs a bit more rich just above idle range because the vacuum draw is lower?

Cost is up in the air. I think US$4500 is a bit high unless you are going for Motec. My SDS is running half of that. Okay, I'll go on the dyno, but as I said with chiptuning, you're best bet is to go on a dyno too, and then you're doing the same thing.

Don't get me wrong, chiptuning is cool if you have the dyno and chipburning facility right next to each other, literally. Guys in Calgary, three hours away from here, tune 500-700hp Supras in such a manner. But our Saabs and Saab tuners are more spread out, Speedparts isn't going to fly over here to burn my hundred dollar chip. Nor do I have the extensive used Saab parts network relatively close to me. For me, also, the pain of putting DI into a car isn't worth the time and effort when I'd be doing the same work, but with brand new components.
