Sweedspeed does have a website (http://www.sweedspeed.com), but it is not very helpful - Frank agrees and is looking for someone to build him a better site. He's too busy to spend much thought on it lately, anyways, what with having to develop stuff for an entirely new model (9-3SS) and building one for the Belgian Saab importers to compete in the 2003 Belcar series...
$4,500 or thereabouts is what Frank quotes to install aftermarket ECU and set it up to -his- satisfaction for maximum performance and street driveability. This includes a whole lot of dyno time and I wouldn't expect the car to return in less than several weeks. His quote for doing the LH 2.2 to the same standards is about $700 - which is of course a far cry from the $100 LH fuel chips but again, this is custom programming based on what your actual car does on the test bench, not an approximation of what a stock engine with certain bolt-on mods 'will do'. Don't see how the results from doing it this way would be different from using aftermarket fuel control, except saving the install and a whole lot of dyno time that would otherwise be needed to figure out cold start enrichment, idling thorught the whole engine temp range, et cetera.
I do appreciate that you folks in the or Canada don't have access to facilities like this like I or people in Sweden have, and the reasons behind going stan alone - but I just wanted to make clear that this isn't universal truth. It's also dependent on what you achieve. Frank will not be able to get 520 hp out of a 2.0 Saab engine using LH like he did on the 9000 race car on Weber Alpha stand alone. But guess what - I can't afford the hardware needed to run 520 hp though a Saab driveline anyways, and given the fact that my car needs to perform smoothly and predictably under road conditions, with road tires and a synchronized gearbox, I don't have any use for that kind of power either. Not until someone builds us an AWD system... ;-) It's easy to spend silly money on a Saab engine because there'll always be something better and more efficient around the corner, but at the end of the day you'll have to look at the car in its entirety -unless you go drag racing, of course...
