Airmass parameters are fixed in your T7 software. By altering them ( = modifying SW ), you can put more torque out of your engine, if your HW is capable for that. If your HW can not reach these values, more power can be produced by just changing better HW ( better = better flow, less pressure lost, better terminal efficiency ). Unfortunately this is not usually the case with std SW/HW. If flow is out of preprogrammed values, T7 tries to restrict it. There are always delays and some error tolerances allowed in EMS:s, though, and this can make it possible to get some power gains occasionally.
Basically this HW only technique can increase VE of your engine, thus making it easier to produce that preprogrammed air mass ( less boost, for example ), nothing more or less within error/delay tolerances.
Thus I claim, that HW mods ( without appropriate SW mods ) offer you very poor bang for buck ratio. They are unpredictible as well. Unfortunately you have to modify your SW as well, as long as your major aim is real power and reliability. That is the way it is. It seems to me, that you already have some problems with your too high A/F ratios ( lean mixture ). You should now take your car to some professional tuning company and get a customized software mapping. Your HW mods are a good start for making some real gains.
