I'd really like to T5 at least one of our 4 c900 turbos. Looking forward to seeing Justin's progress. Seems they would embrace a more modern system if it could be verified and and ran clean but logic doesn't always apply.
A clean, well-tuned c900 with a decent cat will normally pass reasonably well. Most of the smog techs we've used seem to know the the cars and we return to them and develop a relationship. If you aren't sure, check with an indy who regularly works on c900's and get a recommendation. Then you will be taking the car to one that has done them and won't be bungling around looking for stuff. The biggest hassle is the timing check. Take a timing light and make sure the flywheel markings are clean and clearly marked and the timing is to spec. If a timing question arises, you can verify it immediately with the tech and get the question resolved on the spot. Plus, they will know you are serious about a proper check. Doesn't hurt to have a spare known good gas cap too, just in case. Lastly, use check-only stations who have no skin in the repair game.
