Rebuilding K-jet parts Posted by Gary Stottler [Email] (#1463) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gary Stottler) on Wed, 9 Nov 2011 05:31:31 In Reply to: Re: K Jet parts, documents (another source), thresholdmusic, Tue, 8 Nov 2011 12:40:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have had the same problem trying to get the threaded center barrel out. My question here would be, what are the symptoms you are trying to fix? If the inside of the unit is full of dirt this might help you to take it apart and clean it out, but I'd be tempted to try to "flush" it on the car (lift the airflow plate with the pump on and the injectors connected to the hoses but in catch pan - PLEASE do this outdoors with a fire extinquisher at hand!!). This kit does not include replacements for the outlet debris filters (little red plastic bit with screen in the port where the hose going out to each injector attaches). A common failure of earlier units was that the steel diaphragm would rust through. This kit doesn't have a new diaphragm, so it wouldn't fix that. I'm told it's very hard to get these back together leak tight, but the new o-rings should help with that. If the problem can be isolated to the plunger being stuck/sticky, I would try to deal with that without taking apart the unit - gently tap it out with a wood block, clean it with carb cleaner and some 1500-2000 grit wet/dry paper (don't use 600 - too coarse!). If you can get the plunger moving freely the unit will probably work fine as is (unless it really is full of gunk).
If you figure out how to get the barrel out and the two halves apart, let us know - I've got several I'd like to experiment on, just see what the condition is.
On a related note, the other part that would be good to understand the innards of is the Control Pressure Regulator (Warm-up Regulator). I've got one of those apart on the workbench right now, and I'm darned if I can see what it is that goes wrong with them. However, you would need some specifications and pressure gauges to get it reset to the correct "curve" once you've taken it apart I think.
Good luck!
Gary
