Well, he asked the procedure to replace the chain. The two shops he called for quotes never mentioned adjusting the chain as being an option, but of course they would rather have his $1000-$1500 to remove the engine and replace the chain, tensioner, and guides.
Saab used three versions of the chain tensioners over the years. Is that because the first two versions were inferior and needed to be up-graded to the later design?
I removed the engine in he 75 because no amout of adjustment of the guide was going to take up the slack from a non-functioning tensioner, so I pulled he engine and replaced the tensioner.
We have no way of knowing the condition of his components, so if he asks for a procedure to replace parts, that's what he gets.
