Hi all and thanks for your replies:
The problem that concerns me the most is the fact that I have no garage in which to work on my non-working Saab. I live in Queen Anne (right by the Space Needle in Seattle) and even gave up my parking spot for him--a story unto itself!
Anyway, it's good to know that I might not have to remove the engine to replace the chain.
The alternator, timing chain, cam guides and 3 spockets are out of the car currently but I have new parts.
I do have the 2.0 liter with the double-row timing chain.
There are many issues with this car:
-No battery or fuel tank.
-passenger door won't open
-driver's door won't lock
-ignition (key) seems stuck
-brakes are frozen
-clutch doesn't seem to engage...VERY mushy
-etc
So I thought I'd start w/ the alternator/timing chain issue, then try to remove the heater core (case is rusted out) to check for leaks.
Then find a gas tank, etc before I try to start him.
Sorry for the long rambling post, but I think he's worth saving!
Thanks again!
J
