I'm not going to go into much detail, but living in Toronto and working for the city I've noticed that snow tires are never used. Police, EMS and Fire never use them. It's simply an unpractical feature for those who drive in the city/highway. It might be more practical if all you drive on is ice and snow, but if it's a combination of that and pavement then stick to all seasons. Never had a problem with them. However if you wish to fork out the extra dollars go right ahead, but it's no different then someone purchasing a 4x4 because they "assume" it will give them better traction. It's all up to the driver, and driving in such conditions takes a lot of practice and work.
