After driving through the last snow storm in CT, I wouldn't be without snow tires. I saw many cars off the road or rendered almost undriveable, whereas my Viggen motored through the stuff. The only hard part was my driveway (6 inches plus over a foot where they piled the snow when they plowed) and unplowed back roads. The Viggen's two inches (I'm being facetious) of ground clearance is a bit of a problem. I even stopped on a relatively steep road to help a driver who hit the guardrail, and I was able to get going through several inches of snow.
Concerning sliding, I'll often hit the gas or let up, depending on the situation. I have one turn I make where I let off the brakes (I'm coming downhill) then punch the gas through the turn. Woo-hoo! Nothing like sliding around a turn to put a nice start on your morning. On the other hand, if I take a turn too fast with oncoming traffic, I'll generally let off the gas or push in the clutch to attempt to stop my slide.
