Please don't listen to this person. Your, and others', safety is at stake.
It is painfully scary to drive on summer tires in the snow, especially when it gets icy.
I've driven in the snow on numerous summer, all season, and winter tires. Anybody who drives in the snow with summer tires ought to be held liable for any damage they cause.
Most all seasons are OK in the snow but not the ice.
A serious winter tire does a good job on icy roads. I found that the studded ones work the best in that case. I had a set of studdless winter tires where I found that the ice traction compound had worn away the hard way. Luckily, I was driving slow in the bad weather as all folks should.
