I know Les was actively looking at used Saabs in the US when he was replacing his 9-5 wagon a year ago. Bordering US states have cooperative agreements regarding Sales Tax (you pay the higher of the two sales taxes but not both) if you live in one state and buy a car in a neighboring state. Les could find no such cooperation between his Province and any US state, which would have resulted in him paying double Sales Tax in addition to import duty and all sorts of added fees.
