The '72 96, '78 99, and '80 900 I drove in my youth all had door locks which could not be locked before the door was closed. Therefore, you either had to be inside the car or outside with a key in order to close them. This was true for both the driver and passenger-side doors.
This feature prevented me from ever locking the keys inside of these cars.
Once, while visiting some friends in Vermont, I lost the keys out of my pocket while jumping off the balcony into 6 feet of new snow. Luckily, my '83T started right up with a screwdriver. I had a spare key at home in Albany, and never missed a beat. Months later, after the snow melted, the keys were discovered and returned. My buddy was in town visiting his family, and stopped by my place to return the keys. I was notified of his arrival by hearing my car revving and blowing its horn in front of my house.
