The Canadian dollar is hardly the Rodney Dangerfield of currencies. Really, check out the Turkish lire next time you want a laugh. Exactly how many zeroes can you print on paper money... Anyway, I can't say what the real US/CDN exchange rate should be but the Economist had their Big Mac currency index last April 21 -- it's based on purchasing power parity -- and it says the Canadian dollar is 16% undervalued against the US dollar. Of course, the Economist also said in one of their surveys a while back that Canadians are poorer than Americans and that's why the most popular car in Canada is a Honda Civic while it's the more expensive Toyota Camry in the US. Whatever. Let me know next time you see a Canadian starve... As for the US dollarization of Canada, I can't see Canadians circulating notes with famous Americans like Hamilton, Jackson, Grant, or Franklin without being upset. Ditto for Americans giving up these guys for some neutered, non-offensive North American dollar with, what, pictures of polar bears and alligators? No time soon.
