The best websites offer users the choice of state and province... it has nothing to do with Canadian (or American) nationalists and everything to do with the globalization of commerce. The web has made the world a smaller place and as a result many American corporations no longer 'belong' just to America. A consumer in Canada or the US who wants something from SAAB should be able to go directly to SAAB to get what they want, and screw both the Canadian and American governments and their antiquated, bureaucratic postal systems.
SAAB is a great example. A consumer living in Canada can turn on their computer and see a wealth of offerings from SAAB USA. On the other hand, if that consumer decides to 'stay' in Canada the results are not nearly as impressive: the SAAB Canada website is just a shell of the GM Canada website. SAAB Canada dealers are not dedicated to SAABS, they also sell Saturns and Izuzu.
If Saab couldd centralize their marketing organization through the web they could capitalize on economies of scale by eliminating redundancies around the world and serve SAAB enthusiasts better, faster, and for less overall cost.
just my 2 cents (global currency)
