I've driven all sorts of cars in my life, and have *NEVER* had a fuel pump fail--be it a cheap '84 Ford Econoline cargo van [and lots of other crappy Fords], a Buick, an econobox Civic, Bimmers, Benzes, and now my second SAAB. [And btw, I always fill up LATE, when the low gas light is on]
Is there any good reason that a 9-5 fuel pump is $500+ while one for a Civic is a little over $100?
According to Pat Price, the actual Walbro fuel pump used in the 9-5 is cheap (~$150) and not many people know that it's available as an insert.
So why does SAAB charge so much for the entire cartridge?
Sorry, but $900 to change out a FUEL PUMP is highway robbery, and I don't care if the car is a Ferrari. Unacceptable.
On some cars $900 will get you a rebuilt automatic transmission, installed!
