Hi, Friends.

Indeed, as suspected when we test-drove the car we ultimately bought, there is a bad head gasket. Fine. On the supposedly good word of Stetson's Auto Sales (Saabs only) we bought the car and took it home, because they told us that if we had the car checked by our own independent Saab mechanic and he agreed with us that the head gasket was bad, they would replace it as long as we brought it back within the 30-day warranty period. Fine. That's just what we did.

And the head gasket is bad...not only did I learn that here from the kind posts of you friendly folks, (oil and coolant leaking, smoke coming out of the tailpipe at all times, temperature gauge rising when idle), but our independent Saab mechanic...a guy who has worked on classic Saab 900's for over 25 years and has an AWESOME reputation...confirmed this for us without hesitation.

So...we brought the car back to Stetson's, and they are refusing to fix the head gasket. They say they see no reason why those symptoms point to the head gasket being bad. HUH? They cannot offer any OTHER explanations as to why the oil leak the coolant, the smoke from the tailpipe or the rising temp gauge, but they say they don't believe it's the head gasket and they're not changing it.

Any recourse? We asked if we got a SECOND independent diagnosis if they would THEN honor the warranty on the head gasket, but even that won't budge them.

This makes no sense. OF COURSE THEY are not going to deduce the problems as being head gasket related...they don't want to fix it.

What can we do? Any advice?
