I am NOT licensed to practice law in Maine, but I can offer the following generic advise:

You probably have several avenues for legal recourse. These would include rights under any Maine Consumer Protection Acts, rights under Unfair Trade Acts, general contract law, and possibly several other remedies.

With that said, what I would do if I were you is as follows:

1) If not too inconveniant, go to two Indy shops and get a written diagnosis. Presumably, they will both give the same diagnose (note, my advise would be different if not). Send these estimates to the original seller of the Saab, with a demand to respond in writing and repair ASAP. Failure to offer an opportunity to repair could hurt your case if you do not provide the seller with an opportunity to cure.

Choose one of the Indy shops to do the repair (presumably the seller has now again refused), and get it done. Keep all of your documentation.

Now consider: (1) small claims court w/o an attorney, or (2) set up a consultation with a local attorney. Maine law may provide for recovery of attorney fees, so you might be better off hiring legal help. (3) Try to to worry about this too much -- cars break down (I am repairing my head right now also).
