I agree with you...I'd like to clarify what occurred, if I may, though:

We test drove the car, and gave them our concerns which included the head gasket, and why, and they said they would "check that out", and we left. I came here to this board and told them about what I had seen symptomatically, and I was told by the members of this board, whom I trust to know a great deal of information, that indeed I was looking at a bad head gasket.

We then went back to Stetson's and said that we'd like to have the head gasket replaced. The salesman said that they wouldn't be able to do it right away, but if we wanted to buy the car and bring it back within the next month, they'd take care of it. He wrote it down on a piece of paper, but I was skeptical and told him so. He said, in the presence of both of us, "We will absolutely stand by this warranty and we will take care of the head gasket. We want you to drive the car for a while, though, to see if there are any other quirks as well, and then we can address them all at once."

I asked him if we were to buy the car, and THEN take it to our independent Saab 900 mechanic, and if that mechanic were to disagree with Stetson's and agree with us that the head gasket is bad, would they change it then, and he said, "Absolutely."

Our big mistake...and I admit this wholeheartedly, but it wasn't MY decision to do this...the big mistake was in buying the car and trusting what he'd said. We should have said we'd take the car IF and ONLY IF they changed the head gasket. But we had looked SO long and SO hard for a 900 in otherwise good condition, we didn't want to let this one go so we agreed to do it their way.

Now they are simply saying they don't feel the head gasket is bad.

I feel we have no recourse. But I'm hoping I'm wrong, frankly.
