If Walter didn't have such a good reputation, I would be quite hesitant to do any "preventative" work on a well-functioning car. But even work by trusted shops can have issues: when I had my trans replaced, I found the rubber sealing ring that is supposed to sit on top of the brake reservoir (under the cap) sitting on top of the transmission - must have stuck to something when they flushed the system. A few days after getting the car back, I could no longer select 5th gear; I realigned the shift linkage the Sunday (shop closed) before departing on a multi-hour drive - trans must have settled.
It's a shame that Walter is 75 miles away from your car, as he could probably take one look at the clutch through the hole on top of the trans housing and tell you if you need to replace it along with what seems to be the clutch master cylinder.
