To start, I love my 9-5. That said, I am not a purist, and your criteria sparked all kinds of thoughts in my little brain.. I know (roughly) the orads you drive, having grown up in North Stamford, CT. Here goes:

1. 94-95 Infiniti Q45t. This is a fast quiet, nice-handling, reliable, relatively rare car. It is a blast to drive. You don't want the "A" model because of *very* expensive suspension issues. The "T" model has the slightly firmer suspension. Both are the original Q design, before they turned in to Lexus-wannabes. The 4.5 v-8 is stellar. This car is what a Maxima wants to be when it grows up.

2. 1995 Alfa Romeo 164 Quadrifoglio. All I can say, is reliability is relative. You will surely have the only one on your street. Incidentally, the same chassis as the 9000. Image is everything, in an Italian car....

3. 93-94 Acura Vigor GS 5-Speed. Acura built a car using Audi's 5-cylinder longitudinal philosophy. Basically, it works. Fun car to drive, very reliable, and you can get a 5-speed. How many do you see on a regular basis?

4. (Late) 1995 BMW 530i/540i 5/6 speed. Excellent car. A *blast* when you want it to be, downright civilized when you need that. Watch out for earlier cars with Nikasil cylinder liners. They go VERY bad. BMW replaced a lot of engine blocks due to that. More common than the rest of this list, especially in Fairfield/Westchester Counties...

5. 1994-95 Audi S4/S6. Very nice rare car, 5-speed. Also available as a wagon. Take a nice car, make it fast. Gauges glow cool red. Quattro is fun, but gives you a false sense of security on ice... Ask me how I know. Also consider A4 2.8Q 5-speed, smaller, but lighter and more tossable.

There are dozens more.. Just can't think of them right now. But please, please don't become one of those Camry guys.. You know it's not what you really want, right?

B/r,
