cars to choose from...
Rick,
Take your time, wait for a good car to become available.
I like your list. I do think that your will find the Maxima to be equal to the Honda & Toyota's. I have had two Accords over the last 10 years, and have had some problems with both of them.
88 Accord LXI
-3 AC units
-4 Elect window motors replaced
-Front Rotors that would warp at any panic stops
95 Accord EX
-Clutch Slave valve leak at 45K
-Misc PIA's small things
I do like Honda's, but the "halo" of perfection still seems strange to me.
Othe cars to consider:
-Infinity I30's - Good performance, comfort, in South Calif 97-98's are in your price range
-I also agree with the Passat suggestion, great car. With the miles you drive, a TDI might be something to consider (hard to know it's a diesel). Super MPG (35-40 on steady driving). Could pay for itself in fuel costs.
If it was me, here is the order I'd choose for around $18K:
9000 Aero
9000 CDE/CSE (no v6), Auto's seem OK in 97 & 98
I30
Passat (1.8 turbo, 5 spd auto)
Passat TDI
Maxima
No Accord, toyota cam's
Good Luck - go drive a few of these cars!! Then take your time, and move fast when a good one comes up. I don't mind paying a little more for a car that has a good recorded record, and very clean.
Regards,
