Looking for a commuter car, here are my requirements. Appreciate any feedback..thx...

1) Car will be driven 82 miles/day - winding back roads of CT and NY (live in CT, work in Westchester County NY). Actually a nice drive as there are few lights and you can do 40-50 most of the way.

2) I'm getting old...40...well not that old...want some comfort and quiet...

3) Will keep the car 7-9 years.

4) Want to spend under $18,000.

5) Really want something with above average reliability.

6) Image and uniqueness....not a major too many high end cars in the NY/CT area to compete with.....

7) Room - I want the perception of roominess. Perhaps a car wider than most, but not extremely long..

I'm considering....

1) 1999-2000 Maxima GXE or SE - test drove a 99 and 98 - was pleasantly surprised. Seems to be an interesting combination of decent performance, handling, and ride comfort. Expect reliability to be below Toy/Honda/Acura/Lexus, but better than all other mfgs.

2) 2002 Accord LX - 5 speed. It's bigger than I remember. I handled very well, acceleration was so-so. Reliability is there. Only concern is that after 6-8 years will it seem/feel "old". I have a 1991 Volvo - I am amazed at how solid the build is on this car - its a DOG from a performance standpoint, and constantly throwing $500 here/there - but it is solid both the body and exterior.

3) 2001 Toyota...you guessed it..Camry...The common mans car - especially in Beige..if I had a dollar for every beige camry I'd be rich! Haven't driven one but expect it to be quiet, soft riding, sluggish engine. Only concern is that a lot of the used Camry for sale are ex rental vehicles - driven hard...

Okay....wny not a used Saab? Here's my thinking...only Saab's in that price range would be 96-98 900's - maybe a high mileage 93. I know that some believe that if you find a used Saab most of the kinks are worked out in first 30-40K miles and so the rest of the life is smooth sailing quality wise. The 93/900 is probably the best all around car for my needs, but I'm concerned about quality.....

Any input, POV's appreciated.
