I drilled off the rivets and opened the unit up. I gave each of the contacts a light sanding, including the plunger switch at the end. When rotating the barrel, all contacts engaged and disengaged appropriately.
Did see two contacts that had "blackened" corrosion on the contacts, but they cleaned up well. Didn't see anything significant enough to prevent operation.
drilled and tapped the rivets to accept small screws with washers to seal the unit.
