It is the '76 EMS that has had the alignment recently done and that is now free of all shims on driver's side yet still off by a couple degrees.
The '77 EMS I have is the one that rubs. That's the funny part. Even when the shims were in and the '76 was running 3.5degrees negative, nothing rubbed with 195s on incas. I have soccerballs on the '77. My brother had driven the 77 for a year or two and had a sticking caliper...changed the brakes probably 3 times in a year and a half. I gave him replacements but he never did anything. I got fed up and took the car back once he had over heated the car due to a leaking water pump. FAMILY.
I've looked over the manuals again and again and it seems obvious that were one to move the top A-arm in (add shims) the spring would also go in. If there was enough negative added, then maybe eventually the tire would hit, but I never touched that stuff. The car was towed about 400 miles, all wheels on the ground, before the engine transplant. Being told the car didn't run anymore, I tried to fire it up and run she did. I took it around the block and don't remember anything rubbing. other than the leaking WP, everything worked great...there was simply a drain on the battery stemming from a bad clock. Were the tire rubbing during that tow, it would have blown. The tire REALLY rubs on that spring...which brings me to you're suggestion, though possibly in jest, that maybe the spring has moved. I looked everything over before the snow began falling, and don't remember seeing anything out of place but I will check that next, just to be sure.
Thanks for all your help, and if you think of anything else, please let me know.
By the way, that '72 I put the '87 16 valve in is back at my place. Sticking right front caliper. Now the folks who presently own it have decided that, despite their Taurus being in and out of the shop at least once a month, that they don't feel they can handle an "older car". They decided to purchase a minivan instead. They couldn't see puting another 100 bucks in the 99 but to replace it spend 15000 for a slug. Such is the case. ANyone in the market for a 16V 99? I don't think you'll find one like it anywhere else. SHeesh...how do I hook up with these people?
