I think Dean;s comments are specific only to the car he drove--in other words I do not agree with his assessment--rather I feel the 9-5 is the quieter vehicle v the NG by about oh lets say 500 % !!!
Something was amuck with the loaner he had.
I offer you the reader the facts of spending a in a weekend in a MY 2001 9-5 SE Wagon (ie V-6 and automatic) and a couple days in a 2000 9-5 AERO (auto) as a basis for which I speak.
I further participated in the 9-5 Noth American launch and might slightly agree with noise in the 1999 9-5 SE V-6.
It is absolutely not my intention to slam Dean. The contrast of the new 2001 9-5 v an early NG is no fair comparison for the NG. So many improvements in the NG and then into the 9-3----I mean it ain't close folks. Unless you factor the 40 grand of a new 9-5 against the lower $$ of an early NG.
The 9-5 has MUCH less wind and road noise than the NG/9-3. If he got a bad car---that's unfortunate--but it happens.
