We all want to believe that the 9.3 compares to the 3 series, but I would submit that on price alone, you can't compare the two. THe series is a great car but if you compare it in terms of value (features per dollar), it is very difficult to justify. Many of us are very put off by BMW's audacity to charge in the mid to high $30s for a series. For those who say money isn't issue, I would submit that it is or we'd all be driving 9.5 Aeros, or even M5s. Now, it's true that you'll get better resale on a 3 series but if you keep your car for a number of years and sell it in the right market (no-Dallas, yes-Mass.), you'll do fine. I will admit that the 9.3 is based on an older platform and you can argue that it's showing its age as the C&D article descibes. But I drove both cars before going with the 9.3 and I'll take the 9.3s value over the 3 series sticker shock. Keep in mind to that the higher price isn't necessarily related to the superiroty of the car. Instead, it reflects the market value of the car. And BMWs command a strong market perception, and SAAB does not. If you are looking for outside approval (from your cousin, friends at work, etc.) you're not likely to get it because SAABs are not very popular or accepted. But if you like the car, enjoy its value and be greatful that you're not driving yet another 3 series. In sum, the 3 series (on paper) is a better car but not enough to justify the price difference. Much of that difference is based on market demand and people are crazy for Bimmers. Joshua Harrison
