Trade mags have become notorious for brand loyalty, especially those in the auto and computer network industries. I have never seen CandD trash Toyota or BMW - the comments are carefully worded to be "constructive". As a Saab owner and fan, I do see the same current of commentary from them about Saab, and its my sense they are uncomfortable endorsing or praising automotive engineering that is not mainstream. After all, look at Saab's sales - they are not Hondas or Lexuses. Saab is an offbeat product that has been made by a company that makes an effort to follow its own path (and aircraft heritage). This has earned Saab a group of loyal followers. I am sure if they wanted to be a BMW - they could make that car too. But it defies what Saab believes in - a COMBINATION of performance, utility, safety, and style. And an effort to be unique in a car market that is saturated with conformity. Enjoy your 93 - it reflects well on your taste and willingness to be pleased by a company that thinks for itself and not by its sales figures and media dominance. Let BMW continue to act as the benchmark for performance - they can also lead in price and cost of ownership, too. But they don't necessarily lead in overall orginality.
