I will only lease them after duing research into actual selling prices and residual values. That way I know exactly what my obligations are and can say no if the deal isn't right. If the vehicle depreciates more than anticipated, I simply walk away at the end of the lease.
Saab gives incentive financing and cheap leases beacuse they know that the vehicles are not worth anywhere near MSRP. However, leasing residuals are based on MSRP, so having a 52% residual on a three year lease (other brands are between 55% & 65%) makes sense if you know you are getting $7 - $10K off MSRP to start.
When you look at SAAB depreciation off the target purchase price, it's no worse than most other vehicles. It's just that purchasers think they're getting a great deal in purchasing at invoice, when they should be buying at $4,000 under invoice.
That $4,000 difference in factored into the wholesale auction prices of late-model off-lease vehicles, since all of those people are pros and know what SAAB is doing.
All of the above means that unless you intend to keep the vehicle until it falls apart, you are better off leasing SAAB's rather than buying them.
Don't be an amateur playing a professional's game. You will get burned.
