Although I'll admit I usually give most repairs a try myself, my current fleet of four C900's (90,91 SPGs, 92 SC and 91 3-door beater) have all graced the overhead doors of Sabmedic. Over those 15 years Alex has provided complete and reliable service on repairs, spent hours on the phone giving me advice, lent me special tools and even given me some used parts when I got in a jam (calipers don't mount up too firmly when you lose one of the bolts). Has he done a steering rack for me at about the same price? Yes. Was I happy to pay to have someone capable do one of the possibly nastiest jobs on a 900? Indeed.
Last month I had a buddy weld on a pair of safety caps (which are awesome) to repair the rusted out frame rails on the 90 SPG. Into the shop for an alignment. Needed shims on the upper A arms to compensate for the altered geometry. Did I quibble over the extra hour when I got the bill? No. Does it drive like it's on rails? Yes.
Finally, all service businesses have happy and unhappy customers; ask my barber. As these cars age (and if you really like driving them), expect some repairs. Having a factory trained technician with decades of experience is becoming a luxury that I treat as such. If you choose not to patch things up with Alex and build a relationship, shoot me an email; there's a shop up by Sandy Hook that does good work too. Also, I'm always open to knocking down a few pints of Stone IPA at the Brickwall in Asbury if you want to talk Saabs. Best of luck.
