I went by my trusted Saab mechanic this afternoon (not the dealer) to let him check out the car and the steering. He says he's seen enough tricked out hondas come through his shop that he knows how a bad suspension & wheel setup can screw with the steering - and since this was the first Viggen he's seen, he was more that happy to go for a little test drive.
At first he thought it was no big deal, he'd seen much worse, but then a tight turn and a few bumps and "Oh, Yeah!!!" He agrees that it probably has to do alot with the tires, and suggested replacing them with Michelin Pilots - 225's. I may talk to the dealer and see what they can do. I'd love to swap them out, but that's a big expense.
As a side note, my mechanic was pretty impressed with the car, particularly with the lack of turbo lag and the braking power (and the seats, of course). He says he can't wait for the warranty to end so he can't start to work on it. He couldn't understand, though, Saab's philosophy in making some enhancements but not others. For example, why such a nice exhaust, but a relatively narrow intake - or why such good wheels and brakes, but not put on wider tires?
