I do agree as a whole the BMW's are a lot more reliable then our saabs of any year when taken to the track. There are always a dozen or so E36's with 100-200K on the clocks with the original trans, kinda like the 944's. There are usally 2-4 E30's at the schools & they all use them mostly for track cars.
I must say though, it was fun playing with E46's in my stock Viggen. They didn't want to waive me by & to tell you the truth, I didn't want to waive them by either :)
I do totally agree that adding the 6 up front on a M30 does severaly change the handling. I think all the weight is what kills the newer M3's as well.
For me, my next project car is a Lotus Esprit which will be either a S4, S4s or V8. I want the dash of the V8's & the handling of the S4's. Since the V8's presently cost close to twice their 4 cylinder brothers it's probably not goiung to be a option for me, older.....cheaper.... The S4s are suppose to be easily tuned to close to 400 HP however still dealing with a weak trans :( Unfortunantly, it's going to be a LONG ways away before I can attempt a Lotus.... dammit....
