I think I just figured out a big part of the reason why I can't let go of this car. Saab provides the basic platform of what a good car is supposed to be, and then some, at a reasonable price new or used. It's a pleasure to sit in the driver's seat and motor away. That it offers reasonably good gas milage is a plus. Then there's the X factor which is different for each owner. The X factor as far as this particular board is concerned is the ability to amp up the car's performance. I call that X plus. Saab X plus is beguiling, since there appears to be no end to the options, or few absolute definitive ways to address any given performance issue other than proper ground wire connections are crucial. Everything else appears to be up for discussion. I think Jak identified a key characteristic as far as why Saab - he admitted he's not quite right in the head. I think if more of us would admit to the same thing, we'd all be a little happier.
