As others have stated, its a group III oil. So they meet the same specs, but that does not mean that they are equivalant!
The hot spot in engines these days is the top ring land. The top ring has been moved closer to the piston face a few times to reduce emissions. This is where oil will coke and break down. The group IV and V oils will stand up better. The specs for testing oils do not exclude deposits or wear, but set limits under certain test conditions.
Note that the true synthetics will also have reduced friction and will deliver more power and more MPGs.
And the thing that really ticks people off is that the group III oils are being sold for the same prices as the true synthetics, except for Shell Rotella Synthetic sold for $12.88US at Walmart. Thats a fair and reasonable price for a group III oil. And that is a good one.
