I guess I'm "old-fashioned" by some on this BB, but as I have repeatedly offered--and perhaps you've read it occasionally yourself-- that xW-30 weight MOBIL ONE will be fine, and (quoting myself) "99.9% of the readers of this BB cannot out drive the protection of Mobil 1 10W -30."

First Question I would ask you: What type of owner are you? 3 yrs/ 36, 000 miles ? 5 yrs/100,000 miles or "greater than 100,000 miles".

Realizing of course the great % of readers who claim to be "lifers" in ownership, but quickly sell-off the car at 100,000 miles when it needs new struts, and shocks, a DI and an ACC.....

Most people (at least in the USA) finance a car for the 60 months to get the payments "manageable" but get the itch to get new car 38-40 months into this contract.

The advise you've received for 15W-50 is correct---this oil's application is racing, towing, and hot climates (like South Florida, Texas, Mexico --where 100 F is a "cool" day temperature-wise)

NINES and others feel 0W-40 is "the best" oil in their opinions. SAAB's owners' manual says this is recommended for "extreme" driving (yet they do not define extreme in 'absolute' terms in the manual that I can see)

I've driven over a million miles behind the wheel of SAABs--and with xW-30 oil synthetic viscosities, never having had an oil related problem.

Is 0W-40 synthetic better ? Better how ? You change your oil @ 5,000 miles and are worried sick about your oil if it ever got to 10,000 miles ? xW-30 Mobil 1 is then your correct choice. NO PROBLEM!

<Sarcasm> You might get 600,000 miles out of your SAAB with 0W-40 instead if 599,000 if you'd used the 10W-30 Mobil 1 ? Yeah, right !

Since your initial concern was for the "heavier" viscosity, I confined my answer/remarks/opinions/ and feelings to the 10W-30 Mobil 1 weight.

Yes, this is a hotly contested topic. Quote me at 600,000 miles on your own odometer in the year 2013 "99.9% of the people on this BB cannot outdrive the protection of Mobil 1 10W-30." Yep. TG was right!
