by the previous owner. I have no idea when or why, but judging by the way it feels during shifts, it must have been within a few years of when I bought it.
I didn't even know it had been replaced until many months after I bought the car, when I noticed a little tag on the tranny that says "CRS Remanmufactured Components." So unless saab installed a remanufactured unit at the factory (not likely), then it must have been replaced.
Yes, the 1-2 shift is a little slow, and I try to be gentile on the second gear synchro, which generally means: ACCELERATE!...s..h..i..f..t...ACCELERATE!
For some reason Saab has never been able to make a really GOOD transmission, and judging by the reviews of their latest cars, I'm not sure if they ever will. After having done the short shift modification on my car, I'm convinced that shifter feel was never a priority at Saab. It was so simple to do, they could have changed the design, mid-production, at any time. I would imagine that the decreased leverage of the shorter shifter would also reduce wear on the synchros.
I guess the Swedes just like long vauge shifts.
