I think the boxes are German made ZF ? same company that builds them for BMW..so I just never understood what the problem was. I guess the new Saabs are finally up to the "acceptable" level as most other cars now, according to most car mag reviews. I wish someone could shed some more light on the whole history of the Saab transmission blunder and how and when they corrected it, manufacturers and linkage designs over the years etc. Its almost like a taboo subject that is kept hidden.
