because they will probably have the dreaded TCS, which in those years is probably one of the most unreliable (and complicated/expensive) components saab ever made.

A better option could be a '91 9000T, which is what I drive, and is identical to a '92 except for the TCS and a few other very minor changes. Anything '94- is also good. The key is maintenance. My repairs have been few and far between, and much of what I have done could be atributed to marginal maintenance by the previous owner. The key is to find someone who has been meticulous and knows saabs.

It's hard to describe, but a poorly maintained saab will simply emit a bad vibe when you drive it. A 9000 is a very comfortable, solid, easy car to drive. The suspension should be tight and free of groans and sqeeks, as well as the steering, which also should have dead on alignment. The car should start without hesitation, even if dead cold. If possible on a test drive, do a resonably hard acceleration run.

Walk away if:
There is grinding on a hard 1-2 shift.
The turbo needle doesn't readily enter the border of the red zone in second gear.
The car stalls.
The temperature gauge rises and remains past 10:00.
There is not a resonably smooth transition on and off the throttle.
The engine bay is really dirty.
The idle doesn't hover around 900-1000rpm.

I don't consider my car to be expensive to maintain, because I do all of my own work. Parts are really prety cheap online, and junkyards fill in nicely also.
