Future classic cars

I sold C900s when they were new and at the time they were considered pretty complicated cars. Now of course, they seem almost silly simple. I recently bought a shop manual for my Subaru and was reallly surprised at some of the complicated (and I suspect expensive)gizmos a relatively mundane car has. I'm really wondering if we're reaching a time when it will no longer be economically feasable to keep older, pre-classic cars running. Even now older, top of the line BMW's and MB's can be very difficult to sell (and surprisingly cheap). Porsche 911's from the 70's are really expensive--yet for the same money you can buy one from the late 90's and there's tons of them for sale (which should tell you something). As we start seeing more and more technology, not to mention hybirds and electric cars, I wonder if the days of keeping an older car running are drawing to a close? Saabs are still relatively simple but for how long? How much DIY could one do on a new 9-5?
