A few years ago circa 2009, an small subsidiary by the name of eTec was awarded a slice of a U.S. Dept of Energy grant totaling 99.8 mil towards the Electric Vehicle charging endeavor. It's a joint venture with a Chinese company (starts with an "S" Schwenzong or smthn) to build and market EV chargers in China. With these funds China will be outfitted with 12,500 charging stations in five markets to be equipped with 5,000 Nissan Leaf battery cars to plug them in.
eTec, an American company that employs Chinese engineers will send a team of 15 or so to Arizona for development.
EV charging is projected to be a $1.9 billion industry by 2015 with China as a world leader with possibly half of that market share. 50% of scooters sold in China are electric as of today.
WARREN BUFFETT owns a 10% share in Chinese battery / automaker company BVD with plans to launch an EV battery car in the U.S. in the future.
Marketing and product development in China. Imported to the U.S.
BTW, GM has 15% of the market in China. Just sold its millionth Buick Lacrosse!! Other automakers attempting to carve out their niche.
