1. some kind of Palladium matrix/alloy
2. formulation into CH4 (Methane, natural gas) by combining with coal import, then compress. Chemical formulate of synthetic gasoline of extremely high octane from hydrogen and coal is also a possibility if hydrogen is available at very low price (as in thermochemical-electric Hydrogen production from a nuclear power plant on a remote island; it practically is a man-made geothermal plant when shutdown ;-).
As for hydrogen distribution network infrastructure, IMHO, residential fuel cells will become widespread before automotive fuel cells. "Peak oil" production will not be due to running out of oil/petroleum, but due to finding cheaper alternative energy source.
