This follows up on the transmission seizure, posted on June 10th.
Briefly:
1. Transmission seized 900 miles after oil change (done by a reputable Saab indie)
2. There was only 1/2 cup of transmission oil
3. There were about 5 quarts of very dirt oil in the engine (again, after only 900 miles)

Talked to the Indie owner. He denied that his shop was responsible for the mistake:
A. The mechanic did the work has been with hime several years, not a green hand.
B. There was a prargragh on the invoice: "transmiision oil low".
Therefore, the owner claims, the error must have been made by whoever did the previous oil change.
He also suggested that I get the very dirty engine oil analyzed. But I don't see what would that serve.

I should point out that this car does not leak any oil. I have since refilled the transmission oil and changed the engine oil. The ground beneath the engine is dry, no oil drops, after about two weeks.

I have a lot of respect for this owner and actually like him a lot. Would like to give him as much benefit of doubt as possible. So, I am not quite ready to reveal his identity yet.

Here is what I would like to get your thoughts.

If the transmiision oil was indeed drained inadvertently during a previous oil change, by whowever. It would have meant that the transmission had lasted for at least 4000 miles with no oil in it. I asked the Indie owner if that is possible. He answered "I don't know". I guess no one would know without trying that out. Honestly, I find that hard to believe.

I also asked him why did ths shop release the car to my son (this is my son's car, who is now out of the country for an extended period of time) if there was no transmission oil in it? Not just "low", rather, there was "none". It did not even register on the dip stick. He said they always check everything and advise the customers. There is nothing they can do if the customer declines. I followed up on this and asked my son this point. The shop handed him the invoice, he made the payment, no one advised him on the transmission oil or anything else.
