The benefit of AWD is the ability to put more power to the ground. An example is the Audi RS4 which is monstrously fast but, put mildly, doesn't exactly handle like a sportscar (understeer, understeer and more understeer.)
On the other hand you have the Nissan Skyline GTR which is one of the best, if not the best handling cars in the world. (Which can be bought by mere mortals).
My point is that AWD won't necessarily make a car handle better, and in Audi's case it just makes them heavier.
