You did not state your model year, so I can't guess at your mile per year. Cold weather? City? Highway? Mix?
Yes you can to 10K, if you don't have all city or short trips.
No need to change a filter at 5K. There are few large bits in your oil. The wear metals are so small, the filter can't trap them. So you drain oil to get rid of chemical contamination and wear partical contaminates. You would be better off with a premiun filter for the duration than the expense and bother of a standard filter.
I put on 20-25K per year, mostly highway. I change the oil three times per year. I am trying to reduce that but I can't seem to kick the habbit. it used to be 4x per year.
I use a 5W40, you are probably all sick of hearing about that :)
