The only way to determine the exact change interval appropriate for you driving environment and style is to do oil analysis. Start low and adjust as you go. Start with 5k, send it in, look at the wear and oil condition. If acceptable, move up to 7k, do another analysis. And so on.
I have determined that every 10k miles is right for me.
There is definitely no need to replace oil filters between changes. If you think about how they work, you will realise that it is pretty much illogical, unless you have internal engine problems and your engine is full of metal shavings... Some manufacturers advise to replace oil filters every other oil change. This makes more sense that replacing between changes, although I could also argue that used oil remaining in the old filter contaminates fresh oil and that is not good.
Remember, the longer an oil filter remains in use, the better it filters.
