On my 1984 Saab 900T, 3-door, 5-sp; 242,000 miles (RIP) - I used Mobil 1 5W-30 or 10W-30, changing the oil and filter evry 5,000 miles, after the first 10,000 miles break-in period (what did we know back then, synthetic oil was still new 'weird' stuff and the old "must break-in with petroleum oil or the rings won't seat" rule was still being used), until her untimely dead being rear-end by a drunk in a 4x4. No oil related engine problems, ever. The engine was never opened for anything other than routine solid valve lifter adjustments.

1991 Alfa Romeo Spider convertible, 5-sp; 89,000 miles - Changed to Mobil 1 15w-50 at 5,000 miles. I do 5,000 mile oil and filter changes due to the 'severe' service of 90% city driving and short trips (<10 miles). No oil related problems, ever. The engine is never opened for anything other than routine 30,000 mile solid valve lifter adjustments.

1998 Saab 900SET 5-door, automatic; 55,000 miles - Cahnged to Mobil 1 5W-30 at 5,000 miles. I do 5,000 mile oil and filter changes due to the 'severe' service of 90% city driving and short trips (<10 miles). No oil related problems, ever. I just changed to Mobil 1 0W-40 at 55,000 miles. The engine seems a bit quieter, there is no change in gas mileage, no other changes noticed.

2003 MINI Cooper 'S', 6-sp; (on order for mid-May delivery)- Comes from the factory with 5W-30 synthetic oil (Castrol I believe). MINI recommends oil and filter changes at 12,000 miles or every 2 years. I plan on changing the oil and filter every 5,000 miles. Since there is free scheduled maintenance for 36,000 miles/3 years, I will probably have the MINI service department do the oil and filter changes using the "MINI" brand synthetic oil until the free service runs out then I'll change to Mobil 1 0W-30 or 0W-40.

I use Mobil 1, Mann, or AC Delco Duraguard Gold (now discontinued) oil filters. Any other questions? :^)
