"I've had my oil changed at quick lube places, dealers, and indies and I always check the oil level once I get home to ensure a mistake wasn't made. You should've done the same. But you didn't. Tough. You might get a few bucks out of Jiffy Lube just to make you go away but, IMHO, that sends the wrong message to society at large. "
Do you realize the DOUBLE standard you propose here? Two wrongs make a right? Look, I've never said that not checking the oil for 8 months and 5K miles was NOT recommended or proper. The reason for that was a personal agreement I had between me and the wife that she didn't hold up. It happens, and believe me we've been fighting about it ever since.
However, with that out of the way I FAIL to see how any of this absolved Jiffy Screw of their obligation to perform a lousy oil change properly without ever leaving the customer with anything less than a full fill of oil. I'm sorry, but I see absolutely NO compelling evidence from anyone here that this particular car with this mileage, maintenance history, and condition would otherwise burn that much oil in about 8 months and 5K of driving. Like the TK guy said. Would you be willing to bet on that? If so, I wanna bet b/c you'll lose. The car won't burn that much oil in that time and mileage.
I don't understand your comments about being careless. I agree it's a big problem, but I don't see me as a contributor to it. In fact, I see your mentality as a problem. You suggest that you accept Jiffy Screw as being imcompetent, and then make it worse by treating them like a spoiled kid. You check the oil, and check their work after they do it because you can't trust them to do anything right. How does that promote accountability? It doesn't. It promotes the exact opposite which is what we have now. Car warranties are IMO a joke nowadays. Why? No matter what the terms you simply can't get good service anymore. I do computer work, and the service level I provide to my customers is SO much higher than your average auto tech. Furthermore, my customers are WAY more demanding. They don't "check" my work when it's done. If they even THINK there is a problem relating to something I did I hear about it and have to correct it no matter what. THAT is accountability my friend. Not Jiffy Screw where we just expect bad service from yet another overpowered corporate franchise of greed and corruption. Jiffy Screw is exactly the kind of company that has brought this country to it's knees. NOT small business like mine. Small business is as they say the backbone of this country. A very tired and weakened backbone nowadays.
