Another thing I'm trying to figure out as I was planning on holding the credit card protection over their heads (but now probably can't).
Would these jerks much rather complete a repair than to just rob someone of the downpayment/tear down fee and keep the car? Just trying to figure out what kind of bargaining I might have as we are working somewhere in the "1,000 more than the estimated/expected "FLAT" rate" category here to supposedly get the engine back together.
It's another one of those situations where you wish you had a free lawyer because I'm quite sure what these guys are doing is really not legal. When I questioned him about the "flat but not really" rebuild fee I simply asked if all the parts mentioned in the warranty would naturally be replaced as part of the $3,000 fee. He says "no" , and just the parts that are broken or need replacing. The invoice doesn't say that anywhere. It only specifies in the FINE print what won't be covered (which is just about everything). In other words, as my friend said "what exactly do I get for the huge $3,000 fee you lured me with as a flat rate to rebuild the engine". The answer is "not much". :( Talk about having your cake and eating it too ... and then not telling the customer anything about it.
