Every situation is different and reviewed accordingly. All I'm telling you is the way it is with almost every manufacturer. I think people need to understand that once the warranty expires on a car (currenty 4/50 in Saab's case), manufacterers have no obligation to come to the table with anything. There is no argument there regardless of opinion. After that expiration the situation is reviewed as goodwill. The first thing people are asked when seeking help is "are you the original owner" and where, when and how often were the services performed. Does that mean all indy's are bad and all dealers good? Of course not. Manufacturers do not have an unending supply of $ for goodwill assistance so somewhere the line has to be drawn. If you look at the big picture, this is not as easy as one would think. Dealers contribute to goodwill as well so dealer buy-in is important. Just because one owns a Saab, it does not entitle that person to goodwill once the warranty expires. There are factors which determine how much if any assistance is offered. Saab is not denying anyone anything that they are entitled to. No one is "entitled" to goodwill.
Dealers are independent businesses. Manufacturers do not run the dealers nor can they force them to use a particular oil, etc. Manufacturers will audit and work with them to do the right thing but they cannot put a gun to their head. Sad but true. Saab owners will not be penalized because a particular dealer is using a substandard product (if that's what it is)
