You say the 9-5 is "not up to standard", but what is the standard? For the room in the 9-5, you'd have to buy an mercedes E or bmw 5 class. Those cars are much, much more expensive (E320 starts at $49K, 5 series at $40K). They are based on unique platforms with little commonality to other car lines. OTOH, the 9-5 is based on a GM Europe platform with good commonality with other models, and thus the parts are plentiful and relatively inexpensive.
If you have owned a MB or BMW for more than a year, your comments might hold some weight. But you have not, so your comments are based on perception and marketing rather than real-life, drive-it-everyday experiences.
I'd much rather have a relatively simple Saab that provides excellent performance and room than a Mercedes or BMW that would bleed me dry to maintain. That's the tradeoff.
My advice would be to trade the 9-5 for a Honda Accord and live your life in quiet, boring obscurity.
